MAC Matte Creme Review
I have been using the MAC matte creme or MAC matte creme matifiante for a few weeks now, I bought it last year. It is designed to help with oily skin or shine, giving the skin an oil-free or mattified appearance. I have used this product in a number of ways....Under foundation - The first time I tried the MAC Matte Cream I had washed my face and used a toner, I then applied some of the matte cream onto my skin before applying my foundation. It seemed to work quite well and the foundation seemed to glide over the Matte Cream.
Over foundation - I tried applying the Matte Cream over my foundation a few times, it seemed to work well, but I had to blend in my foundation as though I was applying it all over again.
Mixed with foundation - This is the most common application I use now and I have settled with this technique. Before I apply my MAC Studio fix fluid foundation with SPF 15, I squirt a little of the MAC matte creme onto the palm of my hand and then I pour a small amount of the MAC Studio fix fluid foundation onto my palm and then mix the two together, it then takes on a souffle-like appearance. I then use my fingers to apply the foundation to my face and neck area and then blend in using downwards sweeps until the foundation is evenly blended unto my skin. I take extra care to blend around the jawline as this is the area where your foundation can look false with the dreaded line if it is not blended in correctly.
Anyway, this third method seems to work best for me and my skin stays matte for most of the day, sometimes in the afternoon I will add some powder over the foundation if my skin is shiny looking (I have extremely oily skin).
Update 25th March 2009
I popped into Selfridges Oxford Street specifically to get my MAC foundation and while talking to one of their make-up artists I told her that I was using the Matte Creme and we were discussing application techniques. She told me that it can be applied in a number of ways but you can also dab it on if you are already wearing make-up as opposed to rubbing it in like a cream, this helps to keep your foundation in place with having to blend it all in again. Just thought I would share this new piece of info...
