Sexually Transmitted Diseases: Chlamydia - Boots Chlamydia Test Kit
A few months ago I attended a fair and amongst the free goodies I received was a Chlamydia test kit given out by Boots who were in attendance. This free Chlamydia test kit is the result of a collaboration between Boots stores and the NHS to reduce Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI's) in the population....A number of organisations also supply free Chlamydia testing kits, and information to combat sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) these are mainly targeted at a certain age group. (See related external links below this post)
The test kit includes:
1 x Urine sample bottle
Test request form
Sample bag
Pre-paid postal box (no stamps needed - freepost)
Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted Infection that can be passed on through unprotected sexual intercourse. The kit is aimed at the 16-24 age group, to which it is provided free of charge, and is suitable for both males and females. The kit is also available for other age groups 25 and above at a cost of £25. (Alternatively attend at a Genitourinary Medicine (GUM) clinic)
Information provided on the box states that "Around 1 in 10 sexually active young people have chlamydia" (quite a frightening thought really). Other general advice on the box reads "it can take up to 3 weeks for the infection to show up with this test", there is also information on how to carry out the test which appears to be very simple and straightforward.
You can have your results sent to you via text, letter, email or you can ring the freephone number supplied on the box from a BT landline.
The test is confidential and no details will be passed to your doctor (GP).
Once you receive your results, if they appear to be positive, chlamydia can be treated with antibiotics.
You can obtain the Chlamydia Test Kit free of charge from your local Boots store in the United Kingdom or alternatively walk in to your local sexual health or Genitourinary Medicine (GUM) Clinic where you can also access free treatment.
Disclaimer: I do not work for Boots, as usual I am just supplying some useful information to people I think may need it.
